DIXON, CA - A Christmas wreath adorns every upright grave at the Sacramento Valley National Military Cemetery in Dixon.
"It is certainly beautiful," said Maria Cabral whose husband and son are buried in the cemetery.?"God Bless the people who do this!"
The wreath laying is a tradition at the cemetery, which dates back to 2007.?It was started, not by cemetery officials, but by a support committee that raises its own funds for the wreaths.? Every year, the wreaths are placed on the graves by volunteers;?200 volunteers came out to help the first time, this year there were 5,000.
"With our son, Christmas was his favorite holiday," said?Dan Pinckard with?his wife Teresa by his side.?"So it's especially important for us to come and put the wreaths out."
"It is really beautiful and touching to see this," Cabral said.
The wreaths will be in place until Jan. 12.
