KENNESAW, Ga. ? Long time Kennesaw State baseball assistant coach Kevin Erminio has been named assistant head coach by Mike Sansing, the Head Coach for KSU Baseball.Ermino has been on the Black and Gold staff as the pitching coach since 2007 when he came to Kennesaw from Miami (Ohio). During his tenure with the Owls, KSU has won 86 Atlantic Sun Conference games, the second most of any A-Sun affiliate since the 2007-08 season.? Overall the Owls have won 149 games, fourth most in the conference, and three games against top-25 ranked opponents.
?Since joining our program, Kevin (Erminio) has made a big impact on all of our players, not just pitchers,? Sansing said. ?We are excited for Kevin and his new role as it will be an opportunity for him to do more. He has brought a lot to the KSU baseball program and has been a vital part in the great history KSU has with pitchers being selected in the draft. His teachings have played a major part in guys getting to the next level.?
The success of Erminio can be traced to the number of pitchers he has had selected in the Major League Baseball Draft. Under his tutelage, ten KSU pitchers have been selected, with his deepest class coming in 2009 when four of his pitchers, Chad Jenkins, Kyle Heckathorn, Kenny Faulk and Justin Edwards were chosen. Jenkins was selected as the No. 20 overall pick, while Heckathorn was taken with the 47th pick in the supplemental first round.
Erminio has had six pitchers named to the A-Sun All Conference team, and has had 10 members of his pitching staff earn A-Sun Conference Pitcher-of-the-Week honors, while Jenkins was named the A-Sun Pitcher of the Year in 2009. His staff has led the conference in team ERA twice, with the best season coming in 2007 when the team bolstered a 3.77 ERA.
?It is an honor to be named Assistant Head Coach and given the opportunity to expand my role with Kennesaw State baseball,? Erminio stated. ?Having Coach Sansing make a commitment to me and having the confidence in my ability to lead is rewarding. I believe stability in a program goes a long way with coaches, players, recruits and parents, and I am excited to face the challenges that await.?
Before arriving at Kennesaw State, Erminio served as pitching coach at Middle Tennessee State for five seasons (2001-05), where he was a part of two Sun Belt Conference regular season championship teams, and one tournament championship squad. During his time at MTSU, three Blue Raider squads advanced to the NCAA Regionals and his staff led the conference in ERA in 2001 and 2004.
Prior to MTSU, Erminio was the pitching coach at Berry College (1999-2000), where he helped his team advance to the regionals. He began his coaching career at Tusculum College (1992-95) as an assistant coach before joining the Clemson University staff as a volunteer assistant in 1996. The Tigers would advance to the College World Series in Omaha, Nebraska that season. He was an All-Conference shortstop at Tusculum College where he earned his degree in Education.
