ASHEBORO, N.C. ? Authorities said a 5-year-old and a 3-year-old died in a Randolph County house fire over the weekend.
Officials said the blaze was first reported around 10 a.m. on Saturday at a home on Buffalo Ford Road in Asheboro.
Investigators?said four people were inside the home when the first started. Two?adults woke up to the smell of smoke and tried getting the children out, officials said, but it was too late.
Family members confirmed 5-year-old Andrew?Trogdon and 3-year-old Logan?Trogdon died in the fire.
The?5-year-old?was pronounced dead at the scene and the 3-year-old was pronounced dead at Randolph Hospital.
The boys? mother and another adult male living in the residence were treated for smoke inhalation and burns, officials said. Their injuries are not considered life threatening.
The family has set up a memorial page on?Facebook and is accepting donations at KC?s Biker Barn on Fayetteville Road and the Wilco/Hess on Hwy. 64. Donations can also be made to an account set up in Andrew and Logan?s honor at?Trueliant Bank.
The family will hold a candlelight vigil at 9 p.m. on Saturday at?Bicentennial Park in Asheboro.
A citizen has donated money to cover the cost of headstones for the two boys. Randolph Memorial Park donated the burial plots and costs of opening and closing the graves.
Adam?Trogdon is Andrew and Logan?s father. He said the generosity of the community has been overwhelming already. ?All these sweet people from all over the Triad and North Carolina are trying to help out. It?s amazing. Thank you.?
He told FOX8 while he was no longer married to the boys? mother, the two got along for the sake of their sons. ?My boys had this unique ability to bring smiles to faces everywhere we go. Andrew had a smile that?ll light up a room. Logan had this ability to be tender-hearted.?
Family members said the boys? grandfather, Thomas, also lived at the home but was away this weekend. He, Sherrie and her boyfriend lost everything in the flames.
Thomas? motorcycle club, Rebel Rouser MC, is helping to collect donations for funeral costs and clothing. Grand H.?Motorlines donated a truck to park at?Rebel Rouser?s headquarters at?1304 Green Farm Road in Asheboro to collect donations.
According to family members, the boys? mother, Sherrie Hurley, is eight months pregnant and recovering in bed now that she?s been released from the hospital.
Adam said he?s been speaking to Sherrie and they are both devastated and heartbroken. ?That moment continues to haunt me,? he explained. ?It?s left a void in my life that I don?t know I?m ever?gonna replace.?
He added, ?I know in heaven they?re holding hands and Logan?s a little bit scared but.. Andrew?s there to help him out.?
According to a press release from the Randolph County Fire Marshal?s Office, the preliminary investigation of this fire shows the cause to be an accident, however a joint investigation?with the Randolph County Sheriff?s Office is ongoing.
