Natomas Family: FEMA Rule Destroying Our Home | KTXL FOX40

?

NATOMAS -

It?s not what you want to see as you?re coming home.

?We see the smoke and we think, ?wow, that looks like it?s in our neighborhood,? and finally realized it was our house,? recalled Jennifer Taylor.

What Jennifer Taylor says she never could have realized at the time is that, despite her insurance, her home might stay wrecked permanently.

?From what I understand it would literally take an act of Congress to get our house fixed,? Taylor said.

See, her home was basically destroyed, but because it?s in Natomas ? in an aera the Federal Emergency Management Agency has declared a flood plain since the Taylors bought ? they can?t rebuild unless the put the home on a 30 foot tall foundation.

And that?s something they City won?t allow and insurance won?t pay for.

So Taylor says she?s doing the one thing she can do: telling everybody who lives in Natomas beware.

?It makes me think why bother with insurance if I?m not going to have all the protection protection it?s supposed to give,? said Michael Fontaine, a neighbor.
